What to Consider When Choosing a Hiking Trail

Are you interested in going on a hiking adventure? Whether that hiking adventure will last for a few hours or a whole weekend, you will need to choose a hiking trail. When it comes to choosing a hiking trail, you need to remember that you have a number of different options. No matter where in the United States you are located, you should have a number of hiking trails located a close distance away from your home.

Since you should have a number of different choices, when looking for a hiking trail to hike, you may be wondering how you can go about finding the “perfect,” hiking trail to hike. To help you choose the best hiking trail, there are a number of important factors that you may want to think about taking into consideration. A few of those factors are briefly outlined below for you.

Whitewater Rafting in Oregon

For whitewater rafting in the Pacific Northwest, Oregon is an enthusiasts dream! The rivers available only short drives from the major cities provide beginners and experts, alike, with an exciting and fun challenge for half, one, and two day trips. For those who want a longer, more impressive experience, Oregon also offers some of the best four and five day river trips anywhere!

The Umpqua River is, simply put, a dream! Flowing North of Crate Lake, the Umpqua River has Class III and IV rapids and flows through some of the most beautiful surroundings in the Pacific Northwest. The Umpqua has exceptional pool-and-drop rapids and has more rapids per mile than any other Oregon river.

Child Safety Tips for Camping

Camping trips filled with hikes, campfires, s’mores, and swimming with the family are magical experiences for kids. Unfortunately, while camping, some children develop bad habits that can not only give way to dangerous situations at the campground, but will carry into habits that can create dangerous situations in everyday life.
The following tips address situations that are commonly seen in campgrounds. Incorporating these tips into the family camping rules can help keep children safe. In addition, developing these habits will help them to become more considerate to their fellow campers.

Play in Camping Sites Instead of the Road
Campgrounds usually have several roads in and around the camping area. This is so campers can get to and from their campsites with their vehicles. Some parents allow their kids to play in these roads, but that is the wrong thing to do! Roads are never to be used as playgrounds. Children often do not look out for vehicles and frequently hold up traffic when playing in the road. Some children have a hard time deciding what they should do or where they should go when a vehicle comes up behind them. This often causes frustration for drivers, but more important, it can endanger the children.

Why You Should Plan Your Next Hiking Adventure in Advance

Are you interested in taking a hiking adventure? Whether you want your next hiking adventure to only last a few hours or last as long as a few days, you may want to start thinking about planning your next hiking adventure in advance.

Although it is nice to hear that you should plan your next hiking adventure in advance, you may be interested in wondering why that is so. As it was previously mentioned, a large number of individuals turn a traditional hiking adventure into a full-fledged vacation. If you would like to camp overnight at the hiking park in question, it is important that you make your reservations in advance. During the summer months, you will find that camping and hiking are popular activities; therefore, many hiking parks quickly fill up with camping reservations.

Time for a Family Road Trip!

Deciding on a family road trip can be a daunting challenge, not to mention an exercise in patience. However if you prepare ahead of time, the trip can be one of the most memorable experiences of your family’s life.

Here are some quick and easy tips for making your family road trip a fun and safe one.

First, prepare a checklist of items you will need. This will include first aid kit, food, snacks, drinks, and lots of toys, coloring books, paper and crayons, a portable DVD player so your kids can watch their favorite movies; and a cooler. A good idea is to ask the kids what games they would like to take, within limits of course.

Ensure that the snacks are healthy in nature. Too many sugar snacks can have the kids bouncing off the car seats. Remember, this is a relaxing family vacation and you want to avoid the kids getting bored or repeatedly asking you when you are going to arrive.

Check online to print out games for the road that you and the kids can play along the way. There are an assortment of puzzles and riddles as well.

10 Ways to Make Last-Minute Savings on Your Holiday Travel

Uh-oh, you’ve done it again. You’ve left planning for your holiday trip to the last minute and find your travel costs are much higher than you expected.

Well, it’s not too late to get some last-minute savings. Even though travel peaks during the holidays, the cost of traveling nowadays is still less than it used to be. Plus, if you take action now, you can still shave some dollars from your holiday trip.

1. Comparison shop. You don’t have much time, but the Internet makes comparison shopping faster and easier than ever. Check out aggregator sites like kayak.com, but don’t forget to look at individual airline sites as well. And when you’re comparing costs, remember to consider extra fees which aren’t included in ticket prices, such as baggage fees and other additional charges.

Austria at it’s Best – Obertraun at The Hallstatt Lake

If you are planning a trip to Europe in the summer , especially to Austria, you can’t pass the Austrian lakes. The beautiful lakeside resort Obertraun offers the best of two worlds: a nice waterfront lido and breathtaking mountains right next to them. You can relax and go for a refreshing swim or take the next cable car to “climb” one of the mountains.
We ended up booking rooms at the “Haus am See”, meaning house at the lake, which is exactly what it is. The best location on the whole Hallstätter lake, if you want to take my word for it, because it’s the sunny side of the lake. This is important because the lake is surrounded and embedded by rather steep mountains and the sun goes down early.

It’s a family run hotel and restaurant right by the lake with very reasonable prices and ideal for families travelling on a budget. Their service is outstanding and I must mention sweet Isabelle who is the nicest waitress you’ll ever meet!

Travel Alaska… An Adventure of a Lifetime

by: Doug Koch
So you’re like John Locke of the TV series Lost and simply (literally) dying for an adventure. Or maybe you’re just bored to death and you want to experience more of life. Have no fear… no need to travel across the globe to taste adventure in the wilds of Africa or the rainforests of South America. Why should you when you’ve got Alaska. Alaska… the 49th state and fondly known as the Land of the Midnight Sun and The Last Frontier.

Most people believe that Alaska, a name which comes from an Aleut word meaning “land that’s not an island” is simply tundra in the middle of nowhere because of it’s distance from the lower 48 states and because most of the stories you hear about it are usually related to the cold and snow and so-called vast, desolate, open spaces. But you thought wrong.

Alaska – the largest state (by land mass) is also one of the least populated – is a land that combines the beautiful snowy scenery of the Alps with the challenge of an adventure trip to the Congo.

Adventure Travel On Horseback

When you think of “adventure travel,” what crosses your mind?

• Hiking?
• White water rafting?
• Scuba diving?
• Something as sedentary as a cruise ship or land rover safari?

Those ideas lose their “adventure” status when you compare them to galloping on a horse in Africa with a zebra and wildebeest racing along side you, or quietly observing the elephant and giraffe.

How can a traveler visit the remote parts of the world’s most beautiful and interesting places while…

• Practicing a fascinating sport
• Avoiding polluting
• Keeping in harmony with history and nature
• Being free to explore exotic locations
• Making friends in remote places, and
• Sharing the experience with a willing animal?

Have you ever considered the tremendous advantages of adventure travel on horseback? A horse can take you to beautiful and remote places which are difficult to reach in any other way. At the same time, you can practice a challenging sport which has been a favorite of mankind for millennia.
